Things My Mama Said-Part I

Dear daughter,

I wish I could see Mama.  I have so much to share with her.  I wish you could snuggle in Mama’s arms again.  You loved doing that.  She loved you so much and always asked about you.  There was a special connection between the three of us.  One I will never forget and will hold dear for the rest of my life.  We shared a bond that will be forever ours.  Our relationship was strong, beautiful and memorable.

There will be relationships like that in your life.  Some will last a long time.  Others will be for just a season.  Cherish those people and keep them first.  Spend time with them and share your life with them.  Ask them questions and be there for them when they need it the most.  Even though I couldn’t live right down the street, your Mama and I spent hours together every week.  Talking on the phone with Mama was one of my favorite things to do. On my way to work and on my way home I would talk with her about my worries, my dreams, my hopes and every-day life.  I miss those times.  She would always have something brilliant to say that could be so profound but yet so incredibly simple.  I want to spend the next few blog entries sharing with you some of my favorite sayings that Mama said.  In honor of her, I want to dedicate her favorite song: the one you sang at her funeral; the one she would sing to me as a child when we would cook together in the kitchen; the one she would sing to you when you were a toddler.  This song was truly Mama.  She was always hopeful, happy, innocent and sweet.  Love you Mom.

Somewhere Over The Rainbow.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Way up high,
There’s a land that I heard of
Once in a lullaby.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true.

Someday I’ll wish upon a star
And wake up where the clouds are far
Behind me.
Where troubles melt like lemon drops
Away above the chimney tops
That’s where you’ll find me.

Somewhere over the rainbow
Bluebirds fly.
Birds fly over the rainbow.
Why then, oh why can’t I?

If happy little bluebirds fly
Beyond the rainbow
Why, oh why can’t I?

Love,

Mommy
